Capturing the Load is a no nonsense online course appropriate for all emergency services personnel. Capturing the Load offers education around how our brains process stress, the stress continuum, grief, vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue.

This course explains vicarious trauma as our emotional proximity to a trauma, not our physical proximity to it. In this course students will learn how to recognize the signs of vicarious trauma and they will learn the protective factors they can put in place.

This course discusses the different between post-traumatic stress, acute stress and post-traumatic stress disorder. This course also discusses the way our brain reacts to trauma and it features the 5-factor Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory.

This course addresses what cumulative stress and compassion fatigue could feel like and look like. This course helps students identify their vulnerabilities and provides insight into the steps they can take to prepare their minds for calls that feel personal.

This course aims to answer questions like "why don't more women join the fire service?" and "how do we prevent sexual harassment and violence in our stations?" The Way Forward speaks directly these questions and addresses the cultural factors that perpetuate sexist norms, harassment, and violence in fire stations.

As first responders, addiction affects our jobs on a day to day basis. Being on the front lines of this epidemic, it can be easy to lose sight of the people behind the addiction. In this course we will take a look at the human elements of addiction.
