On the Job and Off offers a suite of online courses geared toward dispatch, EMS, fire, and military professionals. Topics center around three main pillars for these disciplines: the mental demands of their jobs (e.g., vicarious trauma, cumulative stress, compassion fatigue), building resilience to meet the demands of their jobs (e.g., addressing addiction, grief, sleep, physical fitness, nutrition), and responding to critical incidents (e.g., managing critical incident stress, suicide prevention). Course instruction is presented via video, and participants are invited to engage in the content through self-assessment and self-reflection. New course content is added and updated annually.
On the Job and Off’s First Responder Assistance Program (FRAP) provides first responders with 24/7 access to clinical counselors who understand the unique environment, stressors, and cultural barriers to seeking help that first responders face.
As the lead instructor for On the Job and Off, Ali Rothrock draws on her education (AA in Fire Science, BS in Psychology) and her unique experience as a volunteer firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician to design and deliver mental health courses that put first responders first.
